Iris is the heroine of the story and she is an activist for the environment, animals and oppressed peoples. She joined in many Native American and Jewish causes as they were a particular passion of hers. She is the executive secretary for Roger who owns a conglomerate of companies that support environment and safe energy.
She becomes an heiress to her family's estate, when her famous uncle dies. She orchestrates her uncle's funeral who was a well-known and loved author. At the funeral, many Native American people came to honor her because of all the work she has done over the years. A medicine man named, Noon Lightening has a premonition while at the large gathering. He suddenly announces, "There is powerful Cherokee medicine on this land." Weeks later at the reading of her uncle's will she discovers that an ancient Indian artifact was indeed unearthed while the gardener was digging a garden bed.
She contacts her friend, Chief Standing Bear and he notifies the Native American Nation. They are given permission to research and examine the relic. There were three other ancient relics found.
